CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.7.2 Determine two or more central ideas in a text and analyze their development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text. Objective: SWBAT identify and describe the factors that enabled access to the Indian Ocean trade routes by finding the central ideas of primary and non-primary sources. Do Now: Step 1: Take out all items "On My Desk" Step 2: Turn in your completed film analysis work if you didn't yesterday (this was due today) Step 3: Take out agenda and write down homework: 1. Marco Polo CATCH annotations towards the essential questions: What is the central article? How does this connect to what we have learned about the Silk Road thus far in class? 2. Marco Polo Extra Credit due Friday 3. 9 iReady Lessons due Friday Step 4: Read a Book Direct: CFS: I will be successful today if I can… 1. Accurately find the central ideas of Documents A-C. 2. Identify 3 factors that enabled access to the Indian Ocean trade routes. 3. Describe at least 1 of these factors in details, using the best evidence from Documents A-C. -Teacher will lead the class in Do Now/ Contextualization of today’s essential question. We will be watching a short clip from Crash Course and completing notes on page 2 of the packet. -Students will complete Document Analysis for sources A-C (CFS #1). -Students will complete the “Small Group Discussion” in small groups. Since this is not an analytical question, there will not be a full collaborative discussion today. (this can be done in groups of 3 or 4) Students will be identifying the 3 factors that enabled access to the Indian Ocean Trade routes (CFS #2), matching each factor with a document, and providing 1 key detail to describe it. (10 minutes) -Exit Ticket: Scholars will write a brief paragraph answering the essential question (CFS #3).
