Students will be given a copy of Jack London’s essay “To Build A Fire,” and the following prompt: In “To Build a Fire”, Jack London makes bold claims about the role of instincts and the importance of nature. While it may seem that his claims focus on animals, he ultimately has messages for humans. Select one of these topics – instincts or nature –and answer the following question: In “To Build a Fire”, what does London suggest about the role of instincts OR the importance of nature for humans? Write a multi-paragraph response, in which you pay attention to London’s message and craft. Today’s performance task will be administered in the style of a state test, as dictated by the AF Curriculum. Teachers will NOT be able to assist students with comprehension, definitions of words, or writing feedback. We will be providing a planning tool for students to utilize prior to writing their essay.
